Fiber Optics

General Information

For lack of space or for safety reasons, it is not often possible to operate lasers in industry or in the lab exactly where the laser beam is required. An elegant and  flexible method is to use glass fibers to transport light from the laser to the application. The new fiber coupler system from LINOS has been specially designed for use in sophisticated laser applications.

In using glass fiber systems, the decisive factor is to couple as much laser light in the fiber as possible so that at the end of the fiber sufficient light is still available for the particular application. In practice, singlemode fibers are frequently used. They not only transport laser light, but are also capable of retaining the diffraction-limited beam profile of the laser. Even though the polarization properties of the laser beam are to be transmitted, special fibers that maintain the polarization are used.

The fiber coupler system developed and patented by LINOS is designed for the visible spectral range (250 mW cw max. input power, at 405 nm 50 mW cw) and is ideal for transmission of plane-polarized light.
